Small correction to mention of a Flash GoL speed previously; the flash version I did runs at 30 x 30 so that's more like 900 mcs being turned on & off. A few months after I completed this Were-Here had an Flash optimsation mini-competition with entries from some the strongest AS coders around. That generated some excellent speeds for a basic GoL - far more creative code & algorithm than my effort but still many orders of magnitude slower than P5 doing a similar task...even more so if you include time spent creating/coding in that "doing"...
