... ? BBC - Commissioning - WebsitesFocus on Accessibility 2003 is the European Year of People with Disabilities. BBCi is committed to making its output as accessible as possible to all audiences, both to fulfil its public service mandate and also to meet its requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act. While various sets of guidelines are already available to web producers - the W3C's WAI guidelines being the most generally accepted - BBCi wished to gain a clearer and deeper understanding of the needs of disabled people in using websites in general, and bbc.co.uk in particular, so commisioned System Concepts to produce an Accessibility study of BBCi: Problems faced by users with disabilities (PDF file, 1.7 mb). We are making this report available to the public to encourage others to consider the accessibility of their websites and help disseminate good research and best practice throughout the web industry.
