... ? ..was the Quentin & Philip : A Double Portait by Andrew Barrow...It's a cliche but there's still nothing on-line that compares with browsing a decently stocked bookshop... One of the oldest bookshops/stationers/artshops in town, Clerks of Chelmsford. is closing down & it was so tragic to wander in yesterday to see the "Everything at 50% / Cash only" notices up & slightly dazed crowd picking though the remains of the stock. The atmosphere inside bordered on tearful, I think people were kinda shocked to see it in such a state;. No real surpise, it hadn't changed a jot in the 25yrs I've been using it and it did always feel like only sheer force of tradition kept the place alive - it never played up to that the way some of the smarter (I guess) family stores have...very sad... Somehow in the weird mishmash piles I found How The Leopard Chaged It Spots: The Evolution of Complexity by Brian Goodwin which was worth the 12p for the title alone..(yes 12 P...I felt strangly GUILTY buying something that cheap..)..and Evolution Isn't What It Used to Be by Walter Truett Anderson...the bookpiles are still growing... I'm kicking myself now for not picking up some 1/2 price Moleskine notebooks... bugger!...(Grest product/Bad Name award; bloody difficult to enquire about...)... Cool O'Reilly cover from fatfirebug at YH! ...hehe..:)..
