Goodbye, Columbus!..NYT on Gavin Menzies, a popular if somewhat dodgy historian...1421 wants to be another Longitude or FMT but the beauty of those books were they came out of no-where, initially selling themselves using standard publicity, good reviews & word of mouth ; all the marketing behind 1421 feels a little too pushy to me...I don't feel a book gets anything positive out of being so hardshly marketed.. But I haven't read the book though so we shall see....
