... ? Guardian Unlimited | Arts Friday Review | Life after a lonesome deathOn February 9 1963, William Zantzinger, a rich young farmer, struck Hattie Carroll, a black barmaid, with his cane. She died that night; he got six months. Her story lives on in Bob Dylan's brilliant protest song - but where is Zantzinger now? And did The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll really change anything? Ian Frazier reports

... ? Guardian Unlimited | Arts galleries | Design Museum: You Are Here indexHow do we communicate without words? The Design Museum's latest exhibition explores the history of information design. From 18th century models of the solar system to the work of modernist heroes such as Herbert Bayer and Buckminster Fuller, and totems of daily life like the London Underground map, You Are Here decodes the ingenious use of visual information that guides us through our daily lives. The exhibition runs from February 12 until May 15 2005. More information at the Design Museum.

You can do it all in Estonia, the small territory which packs in some charming quirks without ruining your budget. The early years of independence brought hardship, but Estonia is recovering. Despite the rapid changes since it regained its independence in 1991, there's still a lot of tradition, including a language packed with deep 'oo's and 'uu's and thriving folk shindigs.

An inspiring 20th century composer who pioneered works that cross over into the electronic scene of today. The piece shows what you can achieve when people collaborate in an unventilated environment where superglue fumes outweigh the oxygen 6:1. The machines were made by our fair hands and animated in our small studio flat in the east end of London. We all still have tiny bits of clock and metal lodged under our skin which is a slight concern.
